MapsValve have released a bunch of maps for Counter Strike Source that for the main part are remakes of old maps from the past games in the series. They have also released a few new maps that are made for the source version. Valve released maps- CS_Assault is a hostage rescue map, where the terrorists are inside a warehouse with the hostages, and the counter-terrorists have to assault it. This map is medium sized and is relatively easy to memorize for newcomers. Although the structure design of cs_assault is considered to be unbalanced, it has strong popularity among Counter-Strike players. Furthermore, there are many ways both teams can infiltrate through concentrated enemy lines. As for hot spots in this map, the outside and the interior of the warehouse contains plenty of combat so be sure that you are well armed to participate in or withstand a siege. However, the roofs of the building and at the Counter-Terrorist Spawn Zone contains some activity as well, especially when a gunfight results in a handful of survivors. Sniper activity is concentrated around the warehouse roof and the bridge/train tracks. Basically, the CTs should maintain control of the bridge/train tracks while the Terrorist team can focus on the warehouse roof for sniper support. Sometimes however, at least one member of an opposing team can control both sniper spots thus causing an imbalance for that round. In the Counter-Strike Source, all of the hostages are found within the security room.
- DE_Aztec is the only jungle theme orientated map in the Counter-Strike series that has been continuously updated for every newly released CS game. Unlike most other maps, Aztec favors snipers, since Aztec is a very large open-spaced map. Very highly-skilled players who have sniper weaponry will gain an advantage over players with close-ranged weapons. The only concerns that snipers have to consider is being outnumbered by the enemy force and stepping into enclosed areas that may contain an ambush. As such, snipers will be found in the areas with a higher foot ground (such as the ground above the river in Aztec) that provides a great advantage compared to lower areas. Generally, Bombsite B and the sectors that overlook the area tend to have the hottest amounts of combat in the entire map. Many players will often avoid wielding close-ranged weaponry, such as shotguns, in this open-spaced map. However, ambushes are best implemented with these types of weapons and snipers may not even be expecting you to wield a shotgun. While the map has large areas, it also has several spots that favor CQB type players, which snipers will be at a disadvantage. Flashbangs (and sometimes, HE grenades) may not always be useful in the open-spaced areas so players may use smoke grenades for additional cover, distractions, or for rushing.
- DE_Cbble is a very large, open-spaced map that mainly favors snipers. In Cbble, many players will prefer to wield sniper rifles and will avoid engaging enemies at close range, unless the bomb has been planted. Generally, the courtyard is avoided in nearly every round, even though there are two towers respectively for both teams that can provide sniper cover. However, this area serves well for infiltration purposes, especially for players who prefer to rush in the pistol round. Elsewhere, the back routes offers more cover away from snipers but the enclosed sections of the map cannot guarantee immunity to ambushes.
- DE_Chateau requires experience and skills to be accustomed to it, due to its complex map design. While Bombsite B generally favors players whose using submachine guns, shotguns, heavy machine guns, and assault rifles, bombsite A is normally rich of snipers. It is worthy to note that both of the bombsites are nearly the same size and have two levels, perfect for players to dominate incoming enemies who are in the lower areas. Often times, flashbangs, smoke grenades, and HE grenades are used by players and can favor the user(s) since the map prevents enemies and victims very little room in escaping from aggressive opponents, due to the enclosed hallways and rooms of the map. Often times, the Terrorists are at major disadvantages in Chateau as the CTs often have the higher ground and the pathways for the Terrorists have water which causes rushing players to make too much noise (unless they walk). Note: Chateau is quite small and combat can be quick and intense to a great level. Both bombsites are located at joining point of Counter-Terrorists and Terrorists fight yard, causing requirement of rapid movement. If you are hesitant and slow to react when combat occurs in the bombsite(s), the opposing force can eliminate you before the opportunity permits you to counter-attack.
- CS_Compound is another hostage rescue map in Counter-Strike: Source. Both teams can pin each other down with sniper rifles and make moving around the open-spaced areas very risky.Contents. Players armed with sniper rifles will have the upper hand in most rounds. Despite a handful of infiltration routes, it`s not rare to see someone getting killed by a sniper. As snipers will dominate by camping within the tall infrastructures, shotguns are extremely deadly in the storage room, where the hostages are located. Because of this, it is undesirable for players to rush recklessly through the front door.
- DE_Dust is well renowned for its simplicity and was at one point the most popular map in Counter-Strike series. The most used strategies in Dust consist of rushing, ambushing, camping, and defending an important area (such as the bombsites). Combat in this map is very intense, mainly in the middle (or the central hallway) and the underpass of the bridge. These two paths separate the Terrorist and the Counter-Terrorist Spawn Zones thus players must either rush through these areas or wait for the enemy to focus their attention elsewhere. In coordinated team play, the Terrorists must break through at least one of these two pathways to get any of the two bombsites. Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorists should either guard the side (nearby the entryway of the middle) and the bridge or quickly occupy Bombsite A. If these tactics are not done properly, the enemy will gain an advantage as they can get into position to defend their territory. Often times, when either team is too weak or uncoordinated to attack enemy occupied areas, the round will result in the opposing force to win that round. This occurs repeatedly in large public servers and when players are not able to coordinate their rushing abilities.
- DE_Dust2 is a very popular bomb defusal map and is featured in many casual and competitive servers. Dust2 is strategically designed to allow players to either traverse through the pathways with ease or for infiltration purposes. The areas with the highest amounts of conflict include the middle, tunnels, the side, and the bombsites. Snipers are very common in the longer sections of the map but may decide to stay away from the tunnels and Bombsite B. The map is commonly referred to as the most balanced map in the game, however Dust2, like other popular maps, doesn`t offer anything unique to it`s layout, opposed to maps like Vertigo or Nuke with an odd, uncommon. layout.
- CS_Havana is a unique hostage rescue map as it has three hostage rescue zones scattered across the map. Due to this, Havana generally favors the Counter-Terrorists unless they were unable to successfully breach the upper floors of the compound where the hostages are located. Meanwhile, the Terrorists will have a harder time to guarding all of the rescue zones if they have to prevent the Counter-Terrorists from successfully rescuing all of the hostages. In fact, there are many infiltration routes that can allow the Counter-Terrorists to surround the Terrorists from nearly every section of the map. However, the Terrorists can position themselves in the upper floors of the courtyard and the atrium with sniper weaponry to maintain control of their territory. Despite this advantage, the Counter-Terrorists can retaliate with close-ranged weapons (including shotguns and submachine guns) after throwing a smoke grenade or a flashbang. Snipers may struggle in this enclosed sections of the map although they can have some advantages in the atrium, courtyard, and in the alleys. However, upon firing their first shot, a player armed with a sniper rifle, such as the AWP, that player should strafe and constantly find cover while shooting back at groups of enemies. Because of the intense action occurring throughout the map, Havana requires an immense amount of skill and practice
